State of the Island

Hey everybody! Thanks for bearing with us and giving your feedback on the poll. Various reasons make it tricky for Lulu and I to coordinate nowadays, which in part leads to the following:

Here on out, Lulu is going to be stepping down to a helper mod position. She's going to be my codemonkey and such while I go "head mod" in full.

My first act as dictator is—I mean, as part of our discussions, we've decided we're going to go the dressing room route with the game to make it easier to get in and out of play. We're a small but constant little community, and we just want to have fun.

I'll be back tonight after work with a bit more in the way of details, but mostly it'll mean the following:

- Apps and the taken list will be eliminated and the comms unlocked. You want to play? You join the comm and play with anybody you want. The island doesn't care quite so much who shows up just as long as it's dinner after all~

- AC will go down to the occasional "hey, you guys still here?" just so we know who we're working with player-wise

- You'll still get events! I still have plenty of built up resources to provide those, to inspire play and keep the game from going to slice of life that just happens to be on horror island.

That said, the matter of the board game event leads to my new inquiry: people wanted to play that but just didn't know how to get involved, right? Would you guys be cool with me rehashing it a bit for the July 'theme'? I have some little ideas for it I could put to use....

ETA: Membership on the communities is officially set as OPEN! You can officially consider us at dressing room status. Please bear with us as we shift gears over the next few days and update various pages accordingly. :3

As you're all aware of by now Alex has since stepped down as a mod, leaving me (noppo_sempai & lazysmile) and Phe (chibisensei) as the only mods left in the game. Thanks for all your hard work, Alex! :)

That aside, we do have some very important things to discuss for the future of the game, as some of you have noticed that our modding has been rather…lax this month, and we deeply apologize for it. However, even with Alex on the team it's getting clear that we're not able to hold the game together just by ourselves, since all our RL schedules are too full up for full-time modding. We don't want to close this game, however, since so many of you have invested in it and so have we—so we're going to hold a poll to decide on the best course of action and let you guys decide on the fate of the game!

Of course, we're very open to suggestions other than the ones listed below, so please do make a comment here or PM us at this account if you prefer to keep it private! As well, voting is closed to players in the game only, though those outside the game but are considering apping in may weigh in with their own votes/decisions via a comment or a PM to our mod account.

Hey guys, sorry about this but I'll be dropping Billy as well from the game (which leaves me to bow out of it). Long story short, I think I ran into a wall with my ideas for him and given my feelings about his canon point and the way canon is headed with him, I haven't been feeling like playing him much either. I plan on returning to the game next month with a different character, but for now I will be bowing out of TDS 8( See you all around!

so i failed ac day before yesterday...and now i'm back! yue's washing back up on shore with a day or two more of canon time behind his belt, which means he's exactly the same as he was before, but much less likely to pass out or sleep for 14 hours a day.

...i'm mainly just using this as an excuse to link his permissions post again, for those of you who happen to be inhuman, magical creatures or people particularly close to the spirit world. Because people who aren't in that category are really hard to see! aaand that's it, yup, kes out ~/o/

Friday I am getting on a plane for 8 hours and leaving for Germany! I'll be out of the country for two weeks, and I have no idea what my internet access is going to be like. GOOD EVENING, TDS. I'm a brand spanking new player called Noodles, and I am bringing an original character into your wondahful game with me!

His name is Hyperion Crius and he hails from a world where magic is pretty much the norm, to the point where technology as we know it actually runs on it!

Hyperion's the youngest of triplets, one of which left their family to become some dark artist of sorts. Hyperion tried to track him down before he caused too much damage, which resulted in an accidental death and very strange, magical issues in Hyperion's brain. Like his brother, Hyperion went into the dark arts and cast himself out of the family and has been altering his blood for years to pump it with magic.

Thanks to this he is a pretty good conductor, should someone need a human magic generator, but the main use for his blood is to be sold to the black market to get people spectacularly high. One drop and you're set for a few good hours. This led to him being kidnapped by a pimp witch called Kaena, who enslaved and marked his body all over with tattoos and scars. He did manage to break free of her grasp at some point, and has been on the run ever since.

Except now he's here. And the TL;DR is over.

You have no doubt noticed that Rose is attempting to get the island organized. This can totally be handwaved and probably will to a large extent. So this OOC post is here to help! If your character would like to volunteer for a job or you would like them to be military-volunteered, here is a handy list and sign-up for you!

JOBS:
beach patrols: Steph and Babs, open
Somebody should be checking the beach on a regular basis for survivors. A reasonable period would be twice daily. Twice nightly would be nice too but she's not going to make anyone stay up. This can be done by two different pairs, but she will strongly suggest that it be done in pairs at a minimum. Someone with this job can also take another job, since it's not a constant thing.

graveyard check: Eden (sort of), open
Same deal as beach patrols, but to check and see if anyone has shown up in the graveyard unexpectedly. Less useful now that people have died and come back, but still possibly useful. Pairs aren't absolutely necessary for this but still recommended, and nightly patrols won't be needed.

winter crops: Billy Kaplan
Someone will have to be in charge of gardening and keeping record of gardening supplies. There are a couple of crops that are able to be farmed in December/January, especially in a sub-tropical zone like the Devil's Sea. You're welcome to handwave what they are given a bit of research that I'm too lazy to do while I'm on a roll writing this. Our geographical range should be around the Philippines up into Japan, and some crops should have been planted in advance. There MAY be seeds in the barn somewhere. Since this is outdoor work, this would also be suggested for a pair.

feeding the animals: Yue
What it says on the tin! This job would include keeping inventory in the barn, since that's where the food would be kept. We have cows, pigs, chickens, and horses. Feed for them is on the scarce side and they'll probably have to start using their rice supplies soonish.

walk the horses: Prim
Horses need extra care, including the occasional walk (which Rose can do if nobody volunteers, she doesn't want inexperienced folks put in danger by trying to ride a horse), being let out daily and taken back in nightly, and the occasional grooming. They may be used for food. Shhhh.

slaughterhouse stock: Tim Drake
Pretty much what it says. They've got enough meat put aside that they won't need to use the slaughterhouse for a bit, so this will be a part of a project to clean the place out and make it usable. Someone will need to keep an inventory and clean rust from the tools and machinery.

kitchen supplies: Naoshi
Another inventory thing. Just keeping a list of what they have so that they can evenly distribute supplies and they know when they're running out. Anyone who can't cook for themselves, Naoshi is I believe already cooking on a regular basis, so this is where you get your food.

medical supplies: Mordin Solus
Someone needs to keep an inventory on medical supplies, and it doesn't necessarily need to be the person administering treatment but it would be useful if it was.

clothes: Billy Kaplan
Rose wants to set up a community closet for people washing ashore. This will be another project, involving going around and collecting clothes from the houses, cleaning and repairing them, and sorting them by size. A room will be set up someone in the hospital once a few things have been gathered and someone will have to keep track of how many clothes we have so they can go out and get more if they need to.

OTHER INFO:
Rose is willing to go around and talk to people, teach them what to do, and generally just be a very hands-on administrator. Right now they'll probably be setting things up mostly in the hospital, and another project to come will be fortifying the place and making it safer. If I've missed an important job or something your character might volunteer for, let me know!
